In June the Bundestag passed the “second executive positions law”; it came into force in August. The law obliges listed companies with equal co-determination and at least three board members to have at least one woman on the board. The next vacant position must be filled by a woman, if there is not yet a woman on the board. Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht celebrates the agreement as a success: “This is a milestone for women in Germany.”
But is there a need for a quota for women by law? And is the new law sufficient? Are there enough role models for women or is it a stigma to be a quota woman?
