One in two unemployed is not compensated according to Philippe Martinez (CGT)? It’s true, and it’s even more

“One in two unemployed is not compensated. Postponed due to Covid-19, the pension reform wanted by Emmanuel Macron since his first five-year term is back on the table. The majority, Olivier Dussopt, Minister of Labour, in the lead, multiplies public interventions to justify its necessity. The guideline: the calculation of allowances will be scalable according to the labor market to make work “more incentive”.

Invited this Thursday morning to our colleagues from France Info, Philippe Martinez, secretary general of the CGT, was again reluctant to this principle. Defending the principle that an unemployed person looking for work is not responsible for the economic situation, he argued that half of the unemployed do not benefit from unemployment benefits.

The trade unionist, aware of the job market is even a little below reality… 20 minutes make the point.

FAKE OFF

It’s true. Just over 5 million people (5.152 million) were registered as jobseekers in the second quarter of 2022 according to Pôle emploi if categories A, B and C are taken into account. If the figures and evaluations differ slightly according to Pôle emploi employment, Unédic or Insee, all the statistics issued agree that a little less than one out of two unemployed people receive an unemployment insurance benefit.

2.3 million people receive compensation

Return-to-work assistance (ARE), remainder in the event of resignation, compensation for intermittent performance recipients, allowances for self-employed workers, etc. In total, between 2.3 and 2.5 million people benefit from unemployment compensation. .

Similarly, not all those entitled to compensation receive an allowance. According to Pôle emploi, as of December 31, 2021, only 69.6% of people entitled to unemployment insurance compensation received the amount to which they were entitled.

The end of Covid-19 aid amplifies the phenomenon

On average, people receiving an allowance receive 1,280 euros gross.

The number of people receiving unemployment insurance benefits has fallen in recent months due to the end of the aid extension measures put in place because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
