Obsididan Entertainemnt: Avowed takes place in first-person on an island

In mid-2020, the developer studio belonging to Microsoft Obsidian Entertainment presented for the first time Avowed, but revealed almost no details. In the community, the title was partly traded as a huge alternative to Skyrim – fueled by alleged leaks.

Microsoft has now explained in the context of the Xbox Games Showcase: Avowed is smaller, namely a game in the magnitude of The Outer Worlds, also produced by Obsidian, which offers a scope of 20 to 30 hours.

Players are traveling on an island, in an area called Living Lands. It has long been known that Avowed is set in the same universe as Pillars of Eternity.

The players reach the Living Lands as a kind of envoy of the ruler. On his behalf you should investigate a mysterious plague, but the population treats it with distrust and even rejection – which you can probably change in your favor in the course of the campaign.

The players are either human or elf, other races should not exist in the character generation.

Similar to The Outer Lands, you’re always accompanied by two computer-controlled companions, one of whom is the green-skinned guy from the trailer. There are dialogues, all kinds of decisions and fights.

Avowed: platforms and availability

You fight with magic, but also with a sword and shield, with pistols and other ranged weapons. A special feature is that you can use two combat devices at the same time to eliminate enemies at long range and directly in front of you.

Avowed is scheduled for release in 2024. The publication is planned for Xbox Series X/S and for Windows PC, expressly also via Steam. In addition, the title will be included in the Xbox/PC Game Pass subscription from day one.
