Nursery staff are called on strike this Tuesday all over France. These professionals protest against a government reform on the number of children received, recalls Le Figaro.
In more than thirty cities in France, CGT, CFDT, FSU, FO, Sud, and the National Union of Early Childhood Professionals (SNPPE) called for demonstrations alongside the collective “No baby at the locker! “. They oppose the reform of reception methods, initiated in January by the Secretary of State for Children and Families, Adrien Taquet, which is due to come into force at the start of the September school year.
Less space
Among other things, the reform plans to change the rate of supervision of children: this rate is currently one adult for five babies who do not walk, and one for eight children who walk. With the reform, nursery managers would be able to adopt instead a single rate of one for six, regardless of the age of the toddlers. The average space per child would also be modified, going from 7 to 5.5m². This reform should make it possible to increase the number of places in nurseries.
