Nuremberg Nazi Party Rally Grounds: History of the Nazi Congress Hall – Bavaria

from

Olaf Przybilla, Nuremberg

How the National Socialists held the congresses as part of their party congresses in Nuremberg is a fairly well-preserved picture of it. In any case, this much is clear: These events had little in common with congresses of democratic parties, the bigwigs present from the middle NSDAP level acted more as necessary accessories to receive decisions from above with gracious enthusiasm. Adolf Hitler did not see the purpose of such productions as having a “more or less witty discussion”, please do not. Rather, it was about the “expression of youthful forward-rushing power”. But the Nazi superiors had one problem. In order to be able to orchestrate all of this appropriately, the existing hall in Nuremberg on the Nazi party rally grounds, the Luitpoldhalle, was too narrow. Something new, something big was needed. But that was never even remotely finished: the Nazi congress hall.
