Nine cafes in Munich where you can work well – Munich

Westend: Cafe Colombo

It doesn’t actually take much to work anywhere other than the office. Bosses who allow it, a laptop – and a place where you feel comfortable. For many it is in the café. Especially if it also looks nice there and a few small things to eat are offered. Just like in Café Colombo. This wants to be more than a coffee and cake shop, so you get something for the small hunger in the morning, at noon and in the evening. Pastries from Pâtisserie Dukatz, for example, or sandwiches such as tramezzini and focacce, as well as salads. The café is in the middle of office blocks, and many of the employees spend their lunch breaks here. If you don’t want to go back to the office, you can simply remain seated at one of the 15 seats. A small number of regular guests come to work regularly – of course there is also WiFi.

It is practically right next to the Ludwig Maximilian University lost weekend, which describes itself as a co-working space with an integrated bookstore. You’re almost more noticeable here without a laptop than with one. At the bar there is (vegan) food for your nerves, as well as the password for the WiFi. All around you will also find several copy shops – just like the university district. The ideal place to work, especially for students, when the roommates are annoying and the ceiling in the university library falls on your head.

Comfortable armchairs and sofas – and always larger tables that offer enough space for work materials: the costume bird is particularly suitable for working during the week when it is less busy. For a long time, the restaurant was popular primarily as a bar, but now people meet there for coffee. The cappuccino is really good too — and there’s a solid breakfast selection, as well as all-day grilled sandwiches. Around noon, the nice waitress writes the daily specials on the blackboard. In the afternoon you can try the hot chocolate in flavors ranging from orange-cinnamon to pepper. And the work is almost on the side.

Elsewhere you might feel out of place unpacking your laptop – in bean batter definitely not. Because the café even advertises its workstations with WiFi. There is also breakfast, lunch, coffee and cake. The focus is on the delicious waffles: classic with powdered sugar, but also as an olive waffle with pumpkin chutney and goat cheese or sweet with pineapple, pink pepper and coconut chips.

The atmosphere in Café Benko is always warm and uncomplicated and never seems fake. For breakfast there are egg dishes, for lunch you can choose between pasta dishes, soups and stews. And if you belong to the sweet group, there are French toasts, cakes or pancakes. With its close proximity to the Technical University, the café is therefore the ideal place to go for anyone who would rather work in a relaxed atmosphere than in the library. The Wi-Fi password is available on request – like everything else – with a smile.

Cafe Bla, that’s Icelandic, blá means blue. Accordingly, blue is the dominant color in the small café, which is located on a quiet side street not far from the Deutsches Museum. The Nordic, especially the Icelandic coffee culture is celebrated here, the in-house coffee comes from the “Vits” roastery, which translates to the name “Elven Secret”. The café should be a place where everyone can find what they are looking for – whether it’s rest or conviviality. You can work here with relaxed Icelandic music and delicious cakes, bowls and waffles. Just typing out the Wi-Fi password – an Icelandic volcano – might be a challenge.

Ludwigsvorstadt-Isarvorstadt: Loretta Bar

the Loretta Bar has long been a Munich institution, which is actually full at any time of the day or night, but is never uncomfortably overcrowded. The Loretta is therefore not recommended for anyone who needs absolute peace and quiet while working. Everyone else can make themselves comfortable here at one of the wooden tables and watch the hustle and bustle along Müllerstraße through the large windows during the pauses for reflection. For refreshment, there is good coffee, simple, mostly Mediterranean dishes and cakes – and at a later hour there are also very delicious drinks. Just ask at the bar for the W-Lan password.

Maxvorstadt: LAX Eatery

In the LAX Eatery you can work in such a way that it feels like a holiday at the same time. LAX is the abbreviation of Los Angeles Airport and the LAX Eatery is a Californian coffee shop. For example, the love for superfood is typically Californian. And then there is the proximity to Mexico, which is reflected in Californian cuisine. First and foremost, there are wonderful breakfast variations in the corner café, but also a few lunch dishes. All of this usually comes in bowls. It doesn’t matter how cloudy a day in Munich begins. Only at the weekend does it often get so crowded that the waiters are reluctant to give out the WLAN password.

Maxvorstadt: Daddy Longlegs

That Daddy Longlegs was the first café in Munich to sell Açai bowls. In the meantime, people are often queuing in front of the shop for one of the beautifully arranged bowls. Before the first spoon, the mobile phone is often pulled out again, after all, Instagram also wants to be fed. During the week, when there is less going on, you can also work undisturbed after the most important basic needs have been taken care of. You can get the W-Lan password on request at the counter.

Daddy LonglegsBarer Straße 42, 80799 Munich, telephone: 089/80994361, opening hours: Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
