After the gastronomy was closed for months, depending on the local situation, guests are now sitting on the terraces of the cafés and in the beer gardens. Public cultural life is slowly coming back to life with numerous restrictions. But the corona pandemic has pulled the floor from under the feet of entire industries – and thus also destroyed almost countless jobs for students. But are the many, mostly young, temporary waiters, bath attendants and attendants, without any additional income? After all, according to the latest social survey by the Studentenwerk, almost two thirds of all almost three million students work alongside their studies. For half of the students, the money is urgently needed to finance their living expenses. The survey is from 2017, but according to Stefan Grob, Deputy Secretary General of the German Student Union, the figures mentioned are still valid. At first glance, it may be surprising when the German Center for University and Science Research stated as a result of a survey last summer that 60 to 70 percent of all students did not feel any financial effects from the pandemic.
