A man was killed by police early this morning while “obviously wanted to set fire to a synagogue » of Rouen, declared this Friday on X the Minister of the Interior.

According to information from Figaro, the police intervened this Friday around 6:45 a.m. due to smoke emanating from the Norman place of worship, when a man with a knife and an iron bar rushed at them. One of the officials, in return, used his weapon.

The mayor of the city, Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, informed X that no other victims were to be deplored. The outbreak of fire at the place of worship is currently being brought under control by the firefighters, the elected official said on the social network.

Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol expressed his “total support for the Jewish community of Rouen”. For his part, Gérald Darmanin congratulated the police officers who intervened for “their responsiveness and courage”.
