Nearly 65,000 homes still without electricity in Brittany

Temperatures are starting to drop in Brittany. For all those who are deprived of electricity, the time is starting to get very long. In the dark since the passage of storm Ciaran on the night of Wednesday 1 to Thursday 2 November, many households are preparing to spend a sixth day in the dark. According to Enedis, 64,900 homes were still without electricity Monday evening. The department of Finistère, swept by gusts of more than 200 km/h, remains by far the most handicapped with 40,000 households affected.

On Monday, Enedis carried out helicopter flights around Guingamp to speed up the work of diagnosing the condition of certain lines. Across the region, its agents, mourning the death of one of their own on Saturday, have to deal with trees lying on electrical connections, which are slowing down restoration work. Many residents and professionals have had to resort to throwing away the entire contents of their fridge and freezer. “We had to balance everything from fresh to frozen with my husband. When I think that there are people who struggle to eat, it makes me want to cry,” says Fabienne, who runs the grocery store in Pleugriffet, in Morbihan.

Widely disrupted since the passage of the storms Domingos and Ciaran, the mobile network should be restored “in the coming days” in the areas affected by the passage of the storm, mainly in the Brittany region, indicated Minister Jean-Noël Barrot during a trip to Finistère.
