Today in Fürth against Zambia and on Tuesday on the plane to Australia: The DFB women are getting ready for the World Cup. There are still important decisions to be made on Saturday.

In the last endurance test before the World Cup, the German footballers want a convincing performance against lie down Zambia.

“We intend to be a few steps further than in the last test match. But we are, I’m sure of that,” said national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg before the game against the African World Cup outsiders in Fürth.

The 55-year-old alluded to the 2-1 draw against Vietnam in Offenbach, which was very difficult recently. At that time, however, the players from German champions FC Bayern Munich, who later traveled to the training camp in Herzogenaurach, were not used. Some VfL Wolfsburg players like captain Alexandra Popp were also rested. On Saturday, Voss-Tecklenburg wants to reduce its current 28-strong squad to 23 players for the World Cup from July 20th to August 20th. The DFB women play against Morocco, Colombia and South Korea in the preliminary round.

“Expect 100 percent mentality”

Faced with first opponents in their group on July 24, Voss-Tecklenburg and her coaching staff are hoping for insight against an African selection. The DFB recently saw Zambia 3-3 against Switzerland and Morocco 0-0 against the team of German coach Inka Grings.

“We are not yet at 100 percent in the athletic and physical area, and that would still be too early in the periodization,” said Voss-Tecklenburg. “Nevertheless, I expect a 100 percent mentality.” The audience in the Ronhof sports park asked them to simulate a bit of a World Cup atmosphere: “Please make a lot of atmosphere tomorrow! So that it gets loud. So that we can practice a bit.”
