The biggest hit of the British band Smokie was “Living Next Door to Alice”. Now their bassist Terry Uttley has died.

Former bassist for British rock band Smokie, Terry Uttley, is dead. “It is with a heavy heart and tearful eyes that we announce that our beloved friend and band member, Terry, has died after a short illness,” said the band’s website.

The musician, whose full name was Terence David Uttley, died last Thursday at the age of 70. His death was “sudden and unexpected,” it said. The band recognized Uttley as “a dear friend, a loving father, and an incredible person and musician”.

Uttley was one of the founding members of the band from Bradford in the north of England. Smokie celebrated her greatest success with the song “Living Next Door to Alice” in the 1970s.
