After the Oktoberfest is before the Oktoberfest: Since this Tuesday, the people of Munich have been able to vote on which poster the city should use to advertise the festival this year. According to the advertisement, we are looking for the “best, most creative and most publically effective motif”.
Voting runs until January 26th. Anyone who chooses their favorite design can also win something: The city is giving away two places in the city council box in the Schottenhamel festival hall, including a consumption voucher, as well as five collector’s mugs with the Oktoberfest 2024 motif.
This time, 60 of the submitted designs qualified for online voting. A jury of experts ultimately decides on the winning motif. She is presented with the 30 posters that performed best in the population survey. At the beginning of February it will be announced who won.
Maybe it will be the Bavaria, framed by hops and pretzels, designed like Art Nouveau.
Or the couple in lederhosen and dirndls, dancing, with a Ferris wheel in the background.
Or the lion that opens its mouth so wide that a pretzel can fit upright in it?
As every year, there are also more minimalist, abstract designs. Various hodgepodges of things associated with Oktoberfest. Once arranged in the shape of a heart, once graphically very reduced and with the Munich child in the middle, once entwined by a white and blue ribbon. Several hearts, consisting of a bubbling beer mug, a dirndl cleavage or a pretzel with radish.
A poster completely in blue-white-yellow, like the sky and the beer, and one with pictograms in white-blue.
And then there is the Oktoberfest in the form of memory cards – probably better to only play after the sobering up phase the next day.
