Munich today – news from August 5th, 2022 – Munich

How have you dealt with leaving in the past Corona years? I can still remember the night I went to a bar for the first time after it closed. A colleague and I met in the Geyerwally (greetings at this point), the vaccination card was checked at the entrance and we managed to get a table. It got fuller and fuller with every beer, and when I had to go to the toilet, I squeezed past dozens of people like in the good old student days. It was a weird feeling, and on the other hand a pretty good one to be around people again.

That’s one of the nice things about Munich: that there are many cozy pubs where you can meet up spontaneously. Whether it’s a fine cocktail bar, a craft beer pub, a student hangout or Boazn: there’s a wide range to choose from. In order to give you an indication of which bars are worth a visit and what to expect there, we at the Munich editorial team have decided to revive the weekly “Happy Hour” column. We hired them early in the pandemic, reinstated them when bars were allowed to reopen, and hired again when numbers shot up last fall. Admittedly, the numbers are high now, but a look at the bars also shows that a lot of people are moving there again.

My colleague Konstantin Rek went to the Jaded Monkey for the start; How he found it there, read here. The column now appears again every Friday sz.de/munich, which bar is next: let yourself be surprised! All tests – including those from before Corona – can be found here.
