The term showmaster has gone out of fashion, perhaps at the same time as Thomas Gottschalk has abdicated as the “Wetten, dass…?” almighty. There are only “hosts” on television. These “hosts” provide the framework for the actual brilliant universal dilettantes. Like Joko and Klaas, who don’t master the show, but deliberately fail and become the show themselves. And what about the MCs, the masters of ceremonies in hip-hop? Of course, they are not a showmaster in the sense of German living rooms, but hip-hop culture certainly has the greatest show value in the pop sector.
This is due to the many forms of expression of the youth movement, which is now 50 years old this year. In addition to rapping, DJing and spraying, there is also breakdancing. It is precisely in this discipline that true masters of the show can be found. For example the Flying Steps from Berlin. The dance collective won various street dance competitions such as the Battle of The Year several times and, in 2000, set a world record holder in headspin with Benny Kimoto. They also became famous outside the scene from 2010 onwards when they mixed up the “Well-Tempered Clavier” with popping and locking and contemporary ballet in “Flying Bach”. Since then, they have toured concert halls in 50 countries in front of more than a million spectators, even with a magic program.
