Munich: Restrictions on the S-Bahn main line – Munich


In the coming weeks, construction work on the second main line will slow down the S-Bahn traffic. Trains run only to a limited extent on six weekends between July 16 and August 22. Among other things, preliminary work is taking place for the construction of the tunnel portal at the Donnersberger Brücke. For example, wells have to be drilled to regulate the water table. From Friday, 10.30 p.m., there is single-track traffic in the western area of ​​the trunk line, only the S 6 and S 7 run normally. For the other lines, the following applies: Coming from the east, the S 8 runs to Hackerbrücke. The S 2, S 3 and S 4 start and end at Ostbahnhof. In the west the lines S 1, S 2 and S 8 run between Moosach, Obermenzing, Pasing and Hauptbahnhof without stopping. The S 1 and S 2 also have changed travel times. Sometimes they only run every 30 minutes. The S 3 and S 4 end in Pasing. From Pasing, in addition to the S 6 and regional traffic, the S 20 also runs every 20 minutes to Heimeranplatz during the day. There is then a connection to the S 7 and the U 4 and U 5.

The railway is also continuing to build the second main line in the area of ​​Laim station. Extensive underground cable engineering and overhead line work take place here. Between July 24th and September 5th, most of the tracks in Laim have to be closed at night on seven weekends. This applies to the nights from Saturday to Sunday and from Sunday to Monday. From around 10.40 p.m. to 4.40 a.m., replacement buses run every ten minutes between Pasing, Moosach, Allach and Donnersbergerbrücke. The S 7 runs without restrictions. For the east: The S 6 goes to Donnersbergerbrücke, the S 8 to Hackerbrücke. The S 2, S 3 and S 4 start and end at Ostbahnhof. In the west, the S 1 goes to Moosach, the S 2 goes to Allach, from there passengers have to change to replacement buses that go via Laim to the Donnersbergerbrücke. Lines S 3, S 4 and S 6 begin and end in Pasing. From there, a rail replacement service is also available to the Donnersbergerbrücke.

Regional traffic is also affected by this work. Only some of the trains can run between Pasing and the main train station at night. Regional trains from and towards Landshut will be replaced by buses between Moosach and the main train station. Passengers from and in the direction of Ingolstadt have to use buses between Dachau and the main train station. Long-distance traffic is only occasionally affected by longer travel times and partial cancellations.

The S-Bahn also shows the way to the SEV stops with videos on its website. Work has been going on on the second main S-Bahn line for a good four years. The railway has postponed the original date for completion in 2026 to 2028 and is currently insisting on this schedule. The reason for this was numerous rescheduling, which the railway calls “optimizations”. Among other things, the platform of the new station at the main train station is moving, and plans are also being made for a holding structure for the future U 9 subway line. At the Ostbahnhof, the railway has even relocated the entire location of the station from Orleansplatz to Friedenstrasse. For the eastern section of the route, the building permit from the Federal Railway Authority is still pending. On the other hand, the progress in Laim is already visible. There, on Wednesday, July 21st, a new 95 meter long arched arch bridge will be pushed over the tracks.
