Munich: Portrait of the host Rudi Färber – Munich

Rudi Färber is head chef at Sedlmayr on Viktualienmarkt. He offers classic dishes of Bavarian cuisine that are hardly available any more, such as the veal head cheek. A visit to what is believed to be the best landlord in Bavaria.

Well, some say he is “the king of the Viktualienmarkt”. Maybe that’s an exaggeration after all, there are a lot of kings and queens there. But “the mayor of Westenriederstrasse” – that’ll be more likely. After all, Rudi Färber did a lot here to liven up the street. “When I came here,” he says, “there was practically nothing going on in the street.” It “totelt”, as they say in Bavaria, and that in the middle of the old town, between Viktualienmarkt and Isartor. “The little Italian across the street, Franco with his café, was about to close,” said Färber, “I told him: stay there, then I’ll send guests over for an espresso or a Prosecco.”
