Munich-Freimann: Car transport derailed at the freight station – Munich

A wagon loaded with new cars derailed at the Freimann freight station in Munich on Saturday night. This resulted in at least six-figure damage. For the time being, it cannot be ruled out that the derailment was caused intentionally by perpetrators, the federal police announced on Saturday.

The train drove over a hand-operated, incorrectly set switch during a shunting maneuver late on Friday evening. As a result, a car transport wagon that was carrying some high-quality new cars derailed. He then tore down a mast and 100 meters of overhead line.

No people were injured, and passenger traffic on trains and S-Bahn trains was not affected.

The police do not rule out the possibility that people outside the company caused the derailment by manually changing the switch in question. The investigation is ongoing.

According to a railway employee, the damage to the track superstructure is around 100,000 euros, it was said. The police were initially unable to say how extensive the damage was to the wagon and the loaded cars. Officials are now investigating suspected dangerous interference with rail traffic.
