Large parts of Germany will get a taste of summer in the coming days. However, the weather service also predicts thunderstorms.

Germany is divided into two parts at the weekend: While the sun in the east ensures summery temperatures, it remains rather mixed in the west and north.

“In the afternoon, individual thunderstorms can also form, especially in the north,” said meteorologist Sebastian Schappert from the German Weather Service (DWD). “In the west and southwest, where the sun is only sparse, the maximum values are 16 to 20 degrees, in the mountains it remains a little cooler.” The eastern half, however, is in the “warm sector”. The sun is showing up there more and more and the maximum values climb to up to 26 degrees. On Monday night there will be a mix of clouds and some rain or a few showers in places, and fog will also occur in some places. Temperatures drop to 11 to 4 degrees.

At the start of the week there will only be “a little rain here and there,” said Schappert. The maximum values are 21 to 26 degrees, in the extreme west and southwest and in the north 18 to 21 degrees. On Tuesday night it will remain cloudy in the west and northwest. It cools down to 12 to 6 degrees.

According to Schappert, large parts of Germany will get a small foretaste of the approaching summer in the coming days. From the middle of the week onwards, the risk of showers and thunderstorms increases, especially in the southwest half. The sun can appear more often in the eastern half, “but in the far west it remains slightly changeable with showers, sometimes also with thunderstorms,” explained the meteorologist. “Speaking of thunderstorms: From Tuesday onwards, these can be a little stronger in the gradually more energetic air mass and can occur in localized areas with heavy rain, hail and squalls.”
