Munich: Freiham is as big as a small town – Munich

Freiham-Süd is primarily an industrial area and the location of companies such as Möbel Höffner or Hornbach, but 350 people also live there. The actual residential area is Freiham-Nord. This northern part of the new district will be created in two phases by 2040: The first has been under construction since 2016, 18 of the 46 building plots of the general residential areas have already been occupied, 18 are currently being built and ten have not yet started. Of the seven core areas, which enable both infrastructure and housing, five are under construction and two have not yet started.

The first phase of implementation is 85 hectares in size, which corresponds to 110 football pitches. It offers space for 11,300 people in 4,500 apartments and creates 4,000 jobs. In addition, 11.5 hectares of public green spaces and 13 day-care centers will be created there. Two elementary schools, a secondary school, a high school and a support center have been in operation since 2019, and a third elementary school will open after the summer holidays. And the high school will be expanded by a pavilion by 2025. There are also other public institutions. The U5 is scheduled to arrive in Freiham in the 2030s.

The second phase of implementation, which is currently being planned – on the area up to the S-Bahn line S4 and adjacent to Aubing – is 55 hectares in size. 7,000 apartments for around 18,000 people and another school campus with a five-stream primary school, a three-stream middle school, a support center and a house for children are to be built there. A third campus with two other types of school is already planned, but not yet specified. Twelve day-care centers and a third neighborhood meeting point are also planned. Numbers vary by source.

A landscape park is also planned to the west of Freiham-Nord, which is to be as large as the west park. The building department plans to start implementation in 2026. The construction of a bathing lake has also been decided for the westernmost tip.
