Munich: Fire at construction site for second main route – part of a series of attacks? – Munich

Four construction vehicles caught fire near the Maximilianeum on Thursday night around 3:40 a.m. The excavator as well as two wheel loaders and a Unimog were completely destroyed in the fire. According to the fire department, there was material damage in the high six-figure range. No one was injured, the police announced on Thursday morning.

A rescue shaft for the second S-Bahn trunk line is to be built at the construction site, for which a district heating pipe must first be laid.

Several people who noticed the fire at night in a green area south of the state parliament alerted the fire department. When they arrived, the four vehicles were already completely on fire. The fire brigade’s operation lasted more than two and a half hours. The road was closed during this time.

The criminal police are now investigating the cause of the fire and currently assume that the fire was started intentionally. A connection with a series of arson attacks in which infrastructure facilities in the city and the surrounding area have been attacked for more than a year is suspected. The responsible investigative group “Raute” has started investigations.
