Munich: Everything is so crowded here – Munich

Saturday, July 16, 2022 in Munich: Woke up early because the flea market dealers have been at work under the window since the morning hours and people are haggling very loudly for discarded waffle irons and children’s ski pants, which nobody else ever wanted. Then, at the baker’s, you hardly get to the counter, because all the members of the Rolling Stones and Guns N’ Roses and bassist Slash’s hairdo, who stayed in town for a few days after their recent concerts, they say there’s so much to do. But hurry on, time is pressing, because the CSD starts at twelve in the city center, which means: parades, tumult, din, bands and a lot of people.

July 2022 means: full of bang in Munich. All, really all events that have been postponed because of Corona and those that have been rescheduled or found somewhere in the back left are taking place in Munich right now. Simultaneously. For the people of Munich, that means a lot of discipline and great organizational talent, because Fomo is big, so the “fear of missing out” – the fear of missing something. And of course that is not possible in this short summer.

Literature house festivals, readings, big concerts in stadium size by so-called old rockers, classical here, classical there, the theaters are getting ready for the last big round before the summer break, clubbing at night, oh and Tollwood is still there. Culturally, Munich really is bursting at the seams. So quickly down a little tequila at the CSD for the condition, danced a little, celebrated the beauty of all bodies and genders, and on we go in the direction of the Olympic Park, where the Munich Midsummer Night’s Dream lures with concerts and entertainment.

Lots going on at the Tollwood – like at the Rea Garvey concert.

But hey, noticed on the way there: It’s also opera for everyone on Saturday. Leoš Janáček’s “The Cunning Little Vixen” will be broadcast from the house to the square in front of the opera, which of course cannot be left out. So get a quick bratwurst and let’s go, all of Munich’s theaters are at the start, hello here, hello there, is that actress Verena Altenberger over there on her way to “Jedermann” in Salzburg?

Unfortunately no time to find out the details, let’s continue. Of course, there is no way around a short stopover at Sting’s on the Tollwood, after all his concert in Munich has already been postponed twice, who knows when the next lockdown will come. So go there and Roooooxaaaannne! bawled, check.

When leaving the music arena, certain signs of exhaustion are already spreading, a man with sunglasses greets us with a toast and a very large glass of wine. It’s Johnny Depp, who hasn’t quite made the jump after his performance on the Tollwood. “Take a minute,” he says, “and chill!” One hesitates briefly, is he perhaps right? Is all this maybe too much? But no, Johnny, the fireworks are about to start over in the Olympic Park.
