Munich: Emergency braking due to cell phone at the S-Bahn station Riem – Munich

A 41-year-old man from Obergiesing put himself in mortal danger looking for his smartphone on Wednesday lunchtime: he was looking for it in the tracks of the Riem S-Bahn station. The driver of an approaching S2 initiated emergency braking and was able to stop the train in time for the man. He was obviously lucky that it was an accompanied training trip and therefore an experienced S-Bahn driver was on board.

The federal police are now investigating the 41-year-old for dangerous interference in rail traffic. Due to the incident, the approximately 200 passengers had to take another train out of town; there were delays and cancellations on the route to and from Erding. It was not until October 27 that a woman got onto the S-Bahn tracks at Stachus to get her cell phone out of there. The Federal Police therefore warned again to step on the tracks: “A cell phone is not worth dying!”
