Munich East: Bahn presents new expansion plans – Munich

Deutsche Bahn (DB) has come a long way with its plans for the railway hub in the east of Munich. In 2024, the documents for the approval process should be submitted, said project manager Michelle Dewald at a presentation on Tuesday. With the Daglfinger curve, the Truderinger curve, and the double-track expansion of the Daglfing-Trudering line (Truderinger Spange), freight traffic on the rails is to be strengthened, the southern ring road and the Munich East marshalling yard are to be relieved of freight traffic and operational quality improved. The whole project operates under the abbreviation DTK.

The bad news for the residents is that the DB has only planned the so-called A variant for the Truderinger curve, not the citizens’ variants, which have planned a route for the curve and the Truderinger Spange further west. If a cross-party catalog of demands called “Truderinger wake-up call” is to be signed by 17 politicians from federal, state and city politics, one of the two citizens’ variants should be further planned. So far, however, these have failed due to the location of the car depository of the Free State on Thomas-Hauser-Strasse, through which the route would lead. An alternative location for the parking lot has not yet been found.

Politicians are calling for the Brenner inflow to be included

The “wake-up call” formulates even more demands: These include, among other things, that the northern access to the Brenner Pass should not remain exclusively aligned to the Munich railway junction, that the train speed of 100 kilometers per hour be put to the test again and that further planning should determine the actual number of trains to be expected trains is taken as a basis. Planning is still based on the old figures from the Federal Transport Routes Plan 2030, in which the Brenner inflow does not yet play a role. If the number of trains in the forecasts increased significantly, according to Dewald, not only the noise protection would have to be replanned, but “actually everything”.

The current presentation of the railway makes the scope of the entire measure clear. This starts with the complete renovation of the Bahnhofstraße/Erdinger Straße underpass and its barrier-free expansion, via the through-connection of the tracks to the Riem transshipment station. Contrary to earlier plans, the Truderinger curve is now seven meters away from the residential area on Thomas-Hauser-Strasse. According to the current status, the car depository is to cross it with a six-meter high bridge, on which noise protection walls are still being installed. The clasp moves about four meters further away from Xaver-Weismor-Straße.

Also new compared to the earlier plans: the two motorway bridges over the A94 will be retained, as will the Schatzbogen Bridge, which will only be partially affected by construction but is by no means to be demolished.

The enclosing moat is to be relocated to the planned Heltauer Strasse residential area

According to Dewald, the relocation of the enclosing ditch is very complex. Because it is not possible to lay the creek in pipes under the planned route due to species protection, a large part of the enclosing ditch fed by the Hachinger creek has to be relocated to the south through the Heltauer Straße development area. According to Dewald, the future course has now been agreed with the city and residents.

She is confident about the problem resulting from the removal of the level crossing on Thomas-Hauser-Strasse. A flyover with sidewalks on both sides is to be built here. But the railway needs a plot of land that is actually intended for residential development. “Negotiations with the owner are ongoing,” says the project manager.
