In times when even top politicians are linguistically opening up to proctology, it can be clear Edge can only be shown at the most brutal possible volume in the commonplaces of the republic. Exactly my thing.” Harald Schmidt immediately agreed when he was asked to write the foreword to the book “Out of Time? Three Generations Against the Spirit of the Age”.
The cabaret artist, actor and “Dream Ship” director is announced as a moderator at Salon Luitpold on Thursday, January 18th, 7 p.m., when the three authors of the book, Jürgen Grossmann, Dominik Pförringer and Franca Bauernfeind, will discuss. Exciting evening, probably not only for those who miss Schmidt’s “clear edge” or who are offended by the fact that he was photographed in 2023 with Matthias Matussek and ex-President of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution Hans-Georg Maaßen.
That’s exactly what the “Salon Luitpold” is about: an exchange. Salon culture with the aim of questioning perspectives or defending them fairly and with arguments. The program for the coming months in the traditional Munich café on current socio-political discourses, art, music or dance offers plenty of opportunity for this.
“How can we create a culture of permanent change that enables us to grow beyond ourselves?” asks the manager, politician and publicist Thomas Sattelberger (January 22nd) and calls for radical new thinking. Ex-professional footballer Thomas Hitzlsperger talks to ex-monk Anselm Bilgri and Nikolaus Birkl, founder of the Academy of Leisure, about what would be urgently recommended: more calm (January 29th).

But how do you get to this state of consciousness in a world in constant crisis? A destroyed planet, general brutalization, the rise of the extreme right, war, Hamas’ orgy of murder. “What to do about hatred of Jews?”, historian Michael Wolffsohn wants to find answers to this question on February 20th. The courageous women in Iran will be discussed on February 27th, and SZ journalists Johannes Aumüller and Thomas Kister will present their research on IOC President Thomas Bach and his relations with Vladimir Putin on April 17th.

And where is the beauty? Can beauty save the world? Maybe not, but there is Mozart and the Luitpold’s salon music series “Mozart on Monday” (January 15th, 6 p.m.), there is literature with Ernst-Wilhelm dealer and his art novel (February 7th), and there is Encounters with great artists such as the conductor Ulf Schirmer (February 22nd) and opera legend Waltraud Meier (February 24th).
