Munich: Con artists caught on the doorstep – Munich

A gang of con artists thought they were acting particularly cleverly on Tuesday in Munich. A caller who pretended to be a police officer contacted an older woman from the Am Hart district of Munich and informed her about a scam involving fraudulent transfers. He then asked the woman to withdraw 8,000 euros from her account and, for security reasons, to hand it over to a colleague who would come to see her.

That sounded plausible. This was preceded by a call from an alleged bank employee who had told the woman about a fraudulent transfer attempt from her account to a travel agency. But the criminal game with the complicated legend was unsuccessful, even though the insecure woman had actually already withdrawn the money.

The criminal police already had two suspected gang members on their radar in another context. When the two, 17 and 18 years old, appeared at their victim’s door to collect money, they were arrested there. Criminal Commissariat 61, which is responsible for “pecuniary crimes with a gang connection,” is conducting the investigation into the case.
