In Munich you particularly enjoy the last warm days during these weeks. So summer in the city. On the one hand, the city’s offer of the same name with rides and showmen, for example on Theresienwiese and Königsplatz, fits in with this, at least until August 22nd. For all those who prefer to drink Aperol Spritz instead of beer and prefer to eat avocado bread instead of French fries, there is something else: the Supernova.

The Italian trattoria in Maxvorstadt has existed for almost a year. It is a bar, restaurant and café in one and, last but not least, there is a lot to marvel at for lovers of unusual furnishings: there are small marble tables inside, the bar stools are covered with red velvet, there is a huge colorful carpet on the floor, plants are everywhere and hanging .

Anyone interested in furnishing will get a lot to see in the Trattoria Supernova.

In the outdoor area, the decoration is not that fancy, but when the summer weather is nice, the large terrace including the Schanigarten is still the ideal place for a Sunday brunch. Especially since everything is of course served on and in brightly painted plates and bowls. The dishes not only taste delicious, but are theoretically also suitable for a photo before the first bite.

What is there and what does it cost?

The brunch menu, which has the meaningful name “Morning Glory”, is leafed through quite quickly, at least as far as the food is concerned, but everyone should find something: there is Greek yogurt with fresh fruit, banana chips and granola or vegan “panna chiacotta” Chia seeds, coconut milk, fruits and cashew butter (both 8 euros) and ricotta lemon pancakes (10 euros). In addition, cornetti with fillings, muffins and cakes that change daily.

The “San Benedetto Eggs” and “Adriano Avocado” (10 euros each) are particularly recommended. The former is two poached eggs with hollandaise sauce on a brioche, optionally with smoked salmon, prosciutto cotto or spinach for a surcharge of two euros each. The latter is an avocado bread, which is also served with a choice of crispy pancetta, stracciatella cheese or fried eggs for a surcharge of two euros. That sounds like the standard program of many Munich breakfast cafés, but there is a small but subtle difference: The Supernova gets its bread from the Julius Brantner bakery, which is probably the best bakery in the city, which is directly opposite.

This also applies to “Cicciolina’s eggs of your choice” (7 euros) – three fried or scrambled eggs, optionally with tomatoes and herbs, pancetta or salsiccia for a surcharge of two euros each – or the sausage and cheese platter “The Italian Farmer Selection” (11 euros), of which you can choose between three varieties.

You can also choose from which freshly squeezed juices you want to have a super juice mixed, so to speak: Orange, carrot, ginger, beetroot, pineapple, celery and apple juice (5 euros) are available. In addition, as befits an Italian trattoria, there are of course all kinds of coffee variations: from an espresso to a ristretto, which is an even smaller espresso, so to speak, a flat white or a latte macchiato to the Caffe Speciale, a double espresso with Cointreau, milk and Orange leave nothing to be desired.

The same applies to the alcoholic offer, after all, for many Munich residents, a real brunch shouldn’t be without a bit of bitzel: that’s why there is not only prosecco and champagne, but also various spritz variations (7.50 euros each). Particularly tasty: the Bellezza spritz with limoncello, lemon curd, lemon and prosecco.

Who goes there and how much time do you have to bring along?

Despite the pandemic, the supernova has now established itself on Türkenstrasse; This is where anyone who wants to be seen meets – in real life and on Instagram. Getting a table without a reservation is therefore almost impossible, especially on weekends.

The fact that the waitresses are sometimes a bit overwhelmed by the onslaught is noticeable if you have managed to get hold of a table, also from the fact that it can take time to take orders or clear away empty plates. Fortunately, you are usually not in too much of a hurry to brunch.
