Tobias Gruber (Name changed) is always happy when he survived May without major disasters. Because it was May when he was diagnosed with leukemia twice within four years. And in May 2019, a BMW raced into the rear of its small car on the Deggendorf autobahn at almost 200 kilometers per hour. His mother, who was behind the wheel, was killed instantly. He survived seriously injured and still suffers from the consequences to this day. And so far he has tried in vain to repair his shattered life. The driver involved in the accident paid 8,400 euros per penalty order, had his driver’s license revoked for a few months, “and is now safely racing through the area again,” believes Gruber. 8,400 euros fine for his mother’s life and for the shards of his existence. “Is that fair?” He asks.
