At 58 years old, the police officer from Ottobrunn has already experienced a lot, “but something like this,” he begins and shakes his head: It was a warm August evening in 2022 when he was on patrol with his colleague and suddenly a Mercedes with flashing lights rushed past them . They weren’t colleagues. But the event technician Jonas W., who just wanted to try out a party blue light, as he said. He was traveling around town with over 100 things and left the police behind. The “fun” now costs him 2,100 euros – and his driving license.
Jonas W. is just 21 years old, talks faster than anyone can understand him and assures that he certainly wasn’t driving away from the police and that he was going “a maximum of 85 kilometers per hour”. He had bought the blue lights for a party the day before for his job, borrowed the car from a friend and wanted to go out to dinner with another friend. Before that, however, he took “a little detour” via the Hohenbrunner industrial area.
Without thinking too much, he put the flashing lights on the roof and drove for “three to four seconds”. When a car with flashing lights and a siren appeared behind him, he didn’t think it was aimed at him and turned into a residential area. He then got out with his friend and continued on foot.
The police see it differently: The officer says that the Mercedes drove through residential areas with the flashing lights flashing, where the speed limit was 50 and 30. He had trouble keeping up with his civilian emergency vehicle. And the police actually lost sight of the “competitor car”. The real police officers discovered two young men on foot in the settlement, “which is strange in Hohenbrunn at 10 p.m.” A witness also called the police saying that a strange Mercedes was parked in front of his garage, which is apparently strange in Hohenbrunn at this time. In any case, they put two and two together and took the young men with them.
“You have to know that you’re not allowed to do something like that,” complained district judge Thomas Jung in his ruling. Jonas W. has to pay 60 daily rates of 35 euros each, as well as a four-month driving license suspension because of official presumption and illegal car racing. W’s defender Roland Autenrieth says at the end: “An unfortunate action, but he has learned his lesson.”
