In the BBC show “Would I Lie To You”, the professional dancer revealed how the quarrel between her and the pop bard almost came about.

Motsi Mabuse, known to many as a long-time juror on “Let’s Dance”, is not only popular in Germany. After her younger sister Oti had already taken part in the extremely successful English version of the show (“Strictly Come Dancing”) several times, Motsi is also becoming a star in Great Britain. And so she was cast as a guest on a popular British comedy quiz show called ‘Would I Lie To You?’ invited, in which a celebrity team tells another anecdotes from his life that are either true or bogus, but in any case funny.

When it was the 41-year-old Mannheim native’s turn, she began: “I texted me whining about my ‘Let’s Dance’ partner and then accidentally sent it to my ‘Let’s Dance’ partner.” An embarrassing faux pas that all of us probably know – only that those involved are usually not prominent. Lee Mack, a comedian from the opposing team, asks: “Who was your dance partner?” And Mabuse reveals: “Guildo Horn.” The pop bard was her celebrity dance student in 2007, when she first took part in the show (not yet as a judge, but as a dancer).

Show host Rob Brydon reacted with amusement to the crooner’s stage name: “Guildo Horn – you’re sure he’s not in the porn industry?” Shamefully, none of those present seem to know the name of our former ESC star. “He’s a pretty famous man. He sings,” Motsi Mabuse defended the 59-year-old.

But what did you not like about working with Horn? “It was before a very important competition in Blackpool,” she explains. “And I was really stressed.” The training with Horn was probably rather tough. The SMS said: “He’s not very good and I’m glad it’s over soon and I don’t have the stress anymore.” Harsh indeed. Particularly unpleasant: When she sent the message, Guildo Horn was right in front of her and could immediately read what she thought about the joint dance training.

Both are now good friends

Mack asks, “Why didn’t you just tell him?” and Motsi grins broadly: “He asked me the same thing!” At that point, the two had only known each other for two weeks, so of course the situation was extremely uncomfortable at first. Horn approached her directly and said dryly: “Oh – thank you.”

However, the incident resulted in the two later becoming “close friends”, according to Mabuse. “Once the truth is out, it’s out!” Despite the bumpy preparation time, the two finally managed to get a good fifth place on the show.

And apparently nobody trusted the nice Motsi Mabuse with such a rude SMS, which is why Lee Mack’s advice team pleaded “lie”. However, the professional dancer had to admit that it was actually a true story – a point for her team. After all, Guildo Horn seems to have forgiven her, and apart from her wild anecdote, Mabuse cut a fantastic figure on the show: charming, funny, authentic. That’s how we like cultural ambassadors.
