Motorway ring Munich-Ost: Expansion to eight lanes continues – district of Munich

This Monday, February 6, preparations begin for the widening of the A 99 motorway between Aschheim and Kirchheim from six to eight lanes. For the construction site, traffic on all six lanes will be gradually shifted to the lane in the direction of Nuremberg by the beginning of March, so that the expansion can then take place in the direction of Salzburg. The Aschheim-Ost and West car parks will also be closed during this time, according to Autobahn GmbH.

Individual lanes will be closed at night for the construction site setup and diversion, and according to the motorway company, the construction of a partition to the construction site will begin in mid-February. The motorway in the direction of Salzburg will then be widened from the current three to four lanes by the end of the year.

The bridges over the A 99 have already been widened in this section for the expansion and the roadway to the north has been provisionally widened so that it can temporarily accommodate six lanes. According to the Autobahn-Gesellschaft, the Kirchheim junction will be usable at all times during the work, but there will be changes to the traffic routing at the ramps and crossovers. The Autobahn-Gesellschaft therefore asks road users to pay more attention in the roadworks area and to heed the signs and speed limits.

Next year, the roadway will be widened in the direction of Lindau/Nuremberg using the same pattern. With the possible release of the hard shoulder at peak times, the motorway will de facto be designed for ten possible strips. According to the Autobahn company, the expansion will be largely completed by the end of 2024.

With the expansion, the entire substructure and asphalt structure of the approximately 50-year-old motorway will be renewed and adapted to the new traffic conditions. More than 100,000 cubic meters of earth and substructure will be moved and 165,000 square meters of asphalt laid. At the same time, seven meter high noise protection walls are being erected over a length of 900 meters. The total cost is 120 million euros.
