Cinema fans currently have to be patient. Major productions like “Mission: Impossible 8” are pushing back their theatrical releases.

The big Hollywood strike hits the industry hard. Numerous large productions are forced to postpone their film projects as reported by “Variety”, among others. For example, Paramount Pictures has now had to postpone the second part of the Tom Cruise classic “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” to May 23, 2025. The film was originally scheduled to be released in theaters on June 28, 2024. But not only the date, but also the title “Dead Reckoning Part Two” will change.

The sequel to the post-apocalyptic hit film “A Quiet Place: Day One” will only be shown three months later than planned. The film was scheduled to hit the big screen on March 8, 2024, but fans will have to wait until June 28, 2024. A planned “Spongebob Squarepants” film has also been delayed by seven months, with the date falling from May 23, 2025 to December 19, 2025.

This puts the productions behind well-known cinema delays such as the tennis romance “Challengers”, the sequel to the science fiction film “Dune” or the final part of the trilogy “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.” The latter doesn’t even have a new appointment in the calendar. But there are exceptions: John Krasinski’s (44) fantasy comedy “IF” with Ryan Reynolds (47), Alan Kim (11) and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (38) in the main roles will be released in cinemas even earlier than planned, namely on May 17, 2024 instead of May 24, 2024.

That’s why US actresses and actors are on strike

Since July 14, 2023, members of the SAG-AFTRA union have been on strike against the film and television industry. It is the first actors’ strike in the United States since 1980 and the first time since 1960 that the acting and writing worlds have struck simultaneously. A central issue is appropriate fees – especially for lesser-known actors – with regard to inflation. People working in the industry are also concerned about the future use of artificial intelligence and compensation from streaming services such as Netflix.
