Microsoft, Tencent, and 16 other Web2 giants have joined forces with Consensys in their mission to decentralize the Infura network, the key point of access to Ethereum for much of the decentralized finance (DeFi) sector.
The partnership aims to increase decentralization on the Infura network, which is key to preventing outages of Web3 services, including the MetaMask wallet service.
Andrew Breslin, senior product manager at Consensys, says the importance of the partnership isn’t about “Who are they?” and about famous companies Instead, it aligns with Infura in “desiring to decentralize every layer of the blockchain infrastructure.”
Scheduled to launch in Q4, the Decentralized Infura Network (DIN) is a centralized solution for Infrua. The network is currently controlled by Consensys, which means there is still a single point of failure.

Infura is developed by blockchain software giant Consensys. Offering a development kit that provides API access to the Ethereum and IPFS networks, Infura is currently the connection point for most DApps to access real-time online data from the Ethereum blockchain.
In the future, Breslin said, DIN will be governed by an independent, decentralized body or some other type of governance structure to ensure that each partner has democratic weight.
