According to a media report, Buero.de has expanded its takeover bid for branches of the insolvent department store chain Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof. As the “Bild” reports, citing corporate circles, the online retailer for office and school supplies is now in negotiations for the takeover of 47 branches of the department store group. So far, only around 40 locations have shown interest.

Discussions apparently recorded

Buero.de has its sights set on locations in medium-sized cities, the newspaper continues. His list of offers includes around a dozen branches in Bavaria alone, including in Aschaffenburg, Bamberg and Bayreuth. “We have not limited our selection by region,” said company boss Markus Schön recently to the Hessian radio. A “soft line” was drawn in his selection, defined by the population of medium-sized cities.

“We are interested in the branches in cities with around 250,000 inhabitants,” explained Schön. The first talks with the insolvency administrator of the Galeria group have already been started, he now told the “Bild”: “We very much hope that the group will respond to our offer and thus make it possible to save the branches and jobs.”

Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof has applied for insolvency under self-administration for the second time since 2020 – the aim of the procedure is restructuring. Insolvency administrator Arndt Geiwitz announced tough cuts. Only a hard core will remain of the now 131 department stores, he said.
