Maxilase, Toplexil, Vogalene… Here is the list of certain medications well known to the general public to avoid in pharmacies. This Tuesday, the Prescribe website published a review of medications to be avoided “for better treatment”. According to the medical journal, 105 authorized drugs prove to be “more dangerous than useful”. Among them, 88 are marketed in France.
This list was drawn up according to the benefit-risk balance. “Most often, when a drug treatment seems desirable, other options have a better benefit-risk balance than these drugs to be ruled out. And in certain situations, the most prudent option is not to resort to medication,” the journal explains in a press release.
Patients not sufficiently protected
Compared to the previous year, the blacklist appears stable. However, Prescrire warns: “there are still many drugs that are more dangerous than useful, which reflects the inadequacies of health authorities in protecting patients. »
Among the medications that can be found in pharmacies, Maxilase is “ineffective” and exposes “to sometimes serious skin or allergic disorders”. We also find Toplexil which shows “disproportionate adverse effects in the symptomatic treatment of cough”. Finally, drugs like Vogalene or Vogalib expose people to “heart rhythm disorders, ischemic strokes and sudden deaths”.
