The green weekly market on Thursday in Markt Schwaben cannot take place until further notice. At the end of January, a commercial building on the market square burned down. The repair work on the roof structure of the building has been underway since Wednesday. Due to the renovation work, there is a large-scale closure, so that the weekly market has to be cancelled. “We’re trying to find a new location as quickly as possible,” says Sabrina Biertz, spokeswoman for the community of Markt Schwaben. The search is particularly difficult because of the time of year. “We can’t just take a field because we need solid ground – preferably concrete,” says Biertz. Alternative locations include the castle moat or the castle park. However, there are no concrete plans yet. “We try to let the market take place again as soon as possible,” says Biertz. However, it will take several weeks before the work on the burnt-out building on the market square is complete. Exactly how long is not yet foreseeable. According to Biertz, a fire report is currently being prepared to determine the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
