Some read bedtime stories to their children or sing with them before going to bed – Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg prefers to program with his daughters. And that since they were three years old.
Mark Zuckerberg’s evening routine has been teaching his daughters to code since they were three years old. This is what Zuckerberg’s wife Priscilla Chan told in an interview with the British Times.
Chan and her husband met while studying at Harvard University. Today the couple are married and have two daughters, Maxima (5) and August (4). In the interview, she says that they share parental responsibilities, with her husband being responsible for putting the children to bed.

“Sometimes they read books together. Sometimes they program together,” says Chan. After all, there are numerous effective ways to teach children how to code because it is “very visual”. “Mark has been doing this with August since she was three,” says Chan.
The native Chinese says that Zuckerberg says a prayer in Mandarin with the children before going to bed. Nevertheless, the couple’s attempt to raise their daughters bilingually has not been crowned with success. “We tried and weren’t too successful, but we spend time making sure they’re … multicultural,” says Chan.
Patience test for Zuckerberg
In June, Zuckerberg had already shared a photo on Facebook showing August programming. He also wrote that the Kano coding software was really great for teaching children to program.
In the comments on the post, the Facebook founder says, “Teaching a child to type is one of the greatest tests of patience I’ve ever experienced. August literally types at 1 to 2 words per minute. And when she does […] makes a mistake and accidentally presses the delete key three times instead of once and then has to type the whole word again, then I have the feeling that I’m going to go nuts. “
No social media before the age of 13
Maxima and August will not have a profile on Facebook, Instagram and Co. for the time being. According to Chan, “that’s the rule” for ages 13 and over.
