Malikah Shabazz, the daughter of the late civil rights activist Malcolm X, was found dead in Brooklyn, New York.
Malikah Shabazz (1965-2021), a daughter of US civil rights activist Malcolm X (1925-1965) who was murdered in 1965, was found dead on Monday (November 22) in her apartment in Brooklyn, New York. This reports “NBC 4 New York”. She was 56 years old.
According to police, she found her own daughter unconscious and unresponsive. According to the broadcaster, a forensic doctor was on site and said the incident was initially not suspicious. However, the cause of death has not yet been clarified.
Shabazz and her twin sister Malaak are the youngest of the six children of Malcolm X and Betty Shabazz (1934-1997).
Recent Developments in the Malcolm X Murder Case
Malikah Shabazz died just days after recent developments related to her father’s murder.
Only last week two of the men convicted of the murder of Malcolm X – Muhammad Aziz (83) and Khalil Islam, who had died in 2009 – were exonerated.
Aziz and Islam have both been sentenced to life imprisonment and have served more than two decades each, despite always pleading innocence. A third man, Mujahid Abdul Halim, 80, was also found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison. Aziz was paroled in 1983, Islam in 1987, and Halim in 2010.
Malcolm X was shot dead on February 21, 1965 while giving a lecture in the Audubon Ballroom in New York.
Condolences to daughter of Martin Luther King Jr.
“I am deeply saddened by the death of Malikah Shabazz,” wrote Bernice King (58), the daughter of the also murdered US civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968) on Instagram. “My heart goes out to her family, the descendants of Dr. Betty Shabazz and Malcolm X. Dr. Shabazz was pregnant with Malikah and her twin sister Malaak when Brother Malcolm was murdered. Peace be upon you, Malikah.”
