She was supposedly fighting for her seriously ill, bladderless daughter. To pay for an operation in Poland, a woman and her partner increased their appeals for generosity for more than two years, notably by organizing lotteries in Ille-et-Vilaine and Mayenne, as reported West France. During these events, the girl was forced to lie to the participants to pity them.
Other times, the mother also made it appear that her child was suffering from leukemia. She then did not hesitate to cut his hair and send him to school with a wig. But the amount was not spent on the girl’s health as they claimed. Instead, the couple got themselves a car. The entire web of lies was then brought to light and nearly 200 defrauded people came forward to the courts.
Tried for fraud on Monday before the Rennes criminal court, the mother was sentenced to 24 months in prison with a two-year probationary suspension. His companion received a one-year prison sentence with a two-year probationary suspension.
