In the opening week of the Leuphana University of Lüneburg, a tutor was assaulted on Monday afternoon. The 21-year-old was attacked with a knife on the canteen and suffered injuries to his neck.

A 21-year-old team leader was attacked with a knife on the canteen of the Leuphana University of Lüneburg and injured in the neck. The tutor had previously done sport in the meadow with a group of students. After the fact, he came to a clinic with superficial cuts, the police said. The attacker fled after the crime on Monday morning on a bicycle. According to their own statements, the police initiated an extensive manhunt.

A police officer on the patrol discovered the alleged perpetrator a short time later in another district of Lüneburg on the bike and pursued him. The man was finally arrested along with another police patrol.

Suspect probably has no connection to the university

According to the information, there is so far no evidence that the 28-year-old suspect from the Lüneburg district has a personal connection to the university or to the victim. In addition, the police do not rule out that the man was under the influence of drugs in the act. It is assumed that the man was in a mental state of emergency, said a police spokesman. An investigation into attempted manslaughter has started.
