Emilio Sakraya on new album: “I’ve been ready all my life”

He played the young Bushido and the crook rapper Xatar. But Emilio Sakraya is best when he sings about himself.

At the presentation of his new album in Berlin, Emilio Sakraya said a remarkable sentence: “I could have been dead three years ago.” In a hotel in Hamburg he now has to explain this sentence in more detail. “Well, let’s put it this way: I just really exaggerated my lifestyle and was way too wild for a while and was a shadow of myself.” He simply didn’t like himself back then. “I was moody, rude, arrogant, not clear.”

The album, his third, is called “Blessings”: The painful experiences in his early twenties were just as blessed for him as the good ones. “These are gifts,” says Emilio. “The only question is: Am I ready to unpack it?”
