LMU clinical study: How does parental depression affect children? – Munich

A research team at LMU is investigating how parental depression affects children and young people. An app with 500 everyday scenarios is intended to help recognize negative thought patterns.

Parents who suffer from depression are often unable to respond sensitively to their children’s needs. In the depressive phases you simply don’t have the strength to do it. But how do the children deal with mom or dad’s illness? How much does this affect your experience of stress? The “KoKo Study”, which is being carried out at the Clinic and Polyclinic for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy at the LMU Munich, examines these questions. A newly developed, app-based training course for children to deal with stress could also be helpful for a more detailed examination.
