Nationwide mobilization
The demonstration started peacefully on Saturday at the Johannisplatz in Leipzig and moved from there to the south of the city. The campaign alliance “We are all LinX” mobilized nationwide for the demo. The organizers declared that they were against “criminalizing anti-fascism as a whole”. The background is Trial against the student Lina E. and three co-defendants from Leipzig and Berlin.
Criticism of the Saxon police authorities
At an interim rally at Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz, in addition to the dissolution of the Soko Linx, a critical look at the security authorities was called for. Specifically, the demonstrators referred to police officers’ chat groups in which right-wing extremist content was shared and the theft of ammunition by Saxon police officers in order to organize private shooting training. That is why you cannot rely on the police authorities in the fight against right-wing extremists, it said at the rally.
Bottles and stones thrown at police officers and buildings
When the protest march passed the police station on Dimitroffstrasse a few minutes later, fireworks and bottles filled with paint were thrown at it. In the further course of the demonstration, bottles and stones were thrown at banks, buildings and the entrance area of the University of Technology, Economics and Culture (HTWK). According to the police, police officers have also been thrown at. On Saturday there were reports of seven injured officers.
After the demonstration was declared over at around 5:45 p.m. at the Connewitzer Kreuz, there were confusing scenes when the police with water cannons and a clearing armor attacked burning barricades that were set up by participants in the protest.
Numerous preliminary investigations initiated
The police shared with preliminary investigations, among other things, for serious breach of the peace, breach of the peace, dangerous bodily harm, numerous damage to property, the disturbance of the public peace by threatening criminal offenses and violations of the assembly law. Two suspects were temporarily detained on Saturday, but were then released. During the night, however, it remained quiet in Connewitz, a police spokeswoman reported on Sunday.
