Terry Carter is dead. The star of the original series “Battlestar Galactica” died at the age of 95, according to US media.

He made history on US television in the 1950s – now, according to media reports, African-American actor Terry Carter has died at the age of 95. As “The New York Times” writes, son Miguel Carter DeCoste confirmed that Carter died last Tuesday (April 23) at his home in midtown Manhattan.

One of his roles is likely to be particularly remembered worldwide: in the original edition of the science fiction series “Battlestar Galactica”, which was broadcast at the end of the 70s, Carter played Colonol Tigh, number two in the ranking and therefore one of the central figures.

Special role in the 50s

In total, Carter’s career spanned almost six decades: In 1955, Carter entered show business after dropping out of law school. He was the only African-American actor in the CBS comedy series “The Phil Silvers Show”, which aired until 1959 and included almost 100 episodes.

Carter landed another major TV part in the series “A Sheriff in New York,” which ran from 1970 to 1977 and starred Dennis Weaver (1924-2006). Although Carter hardly appeared in the cinema, his last role in a feature film was in the 2012 Swedish action film “Agent Hamilton: In the Interest of the Nation”.

Terry Carter has already been declared dead once

Born in New York City in 1928, Terry Carter is one of the actors who has had the dubious honor of being falsely declared dead – in his case, that was in 2015. At that time, according to The New York Times, another, much younger man named Terry Carter died in a traffic accident, which apparently caused confusion. However, the “real” Terry Carter took it with humor and said: “The rumors about my death have been greatly exaggerated.”
