The new action series “Kleo” starts on Netflix. Jella Haase embarks on a bloody revenge campaign as an ex-Stasi killer.

The streaming service Netflix has celebrated a number of successes with series productions from Germany in recent years. After “Dark”, “How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)” and “Barbaren”, the historical action series “Kleo” will be released on August 19th, in which a Stasi killer is up to mischief in Berlin at the time of the reunification. The main role is played by Jella Haase (29), who once became famous as the shrill Chantal in the three extremely successful “Fack ju Göhte” films.

That’s what “Kleo” is about

The Stasi trained Kleo Straub (Haase) to be the perfect fighting machine. But then the young woman is betrayed by her own people and ends up in jail. Kleo is only released after the fall of the Berlin Wall – and hardly recognizes the new Berlin of the post-reunification period full of anarchistic electronic clubs. She seeks revenge and goes in search of those who betrayed her. The West Berlin policeman Sven (Dimitrij Schaad, 36) identifies the former GDR spy – and finally pursues her via Mallorca to the Chilean Atacama desert. Kleo leaves a trail of blood in her vendetta…

Behind the new, eight-part Netflix series are the series creators Hanno Hackfort (52), Richard Kropf (43) and Bob Konrad (54). The author trio has already celebrated success with the iconic Berlin series “4 Blocks” about Arab clans in Neukölln. In “Kleo” they take on an era that they experienced themselves. “In our Berlin, everything is not necessarily how it really was in reality, but how it felt. We took out the psychoactive sunglasses from back then,” explains screenwriter Konrad.

Kleo’s pursuer Sven is played by Dimitrij Schaad, who will soon be back in cinemas as Marc-Uwe Kling in “The Kangaroo Conspiracy”. Screenwriter Elena Senft (“Frau Jordan Equals”) completes the Writers’ Room of the Netflix series.
