Kirchheim – Suspended sentences for Tesla tire thieves – Munich district

Four members of a gang of thieves and their fence have been given suspended sentences for stealing tires on a large scale from a Tesla warehouse in Kirchheim. In addition, the District Court of Munich I ordered the confiscation of assets amounting to 88,000 euros against the two main perpetrators – they are now 21 and 22 years old. The two were sentenced to youth prison terms of 22 and 18 months; moreover, they have to spend a week in permanent detention. Her 23-year-old accomplice and a 28-year-old helper who worked at the camp were each sentenced to 18 months in adult criminal law. The fifth defendant also got off with a suspended sentence: a 37-year-old tire dealer who had bought the stolen wheel sets and stored them in his business. He was sentenced to 23 months in prison for receiving stolen goods. In addition, the confiscation of 28,000 euros was ordered from him, according to a court spokesman.

In seven nights from December 2019 to January 2020, the gang of thieves struck the Tesla warehouse in Kirchheim. In total, she stole at least 46 complete wheel sets, each consisting of four tires and four rims, with a total value of almost 160,000 euros. In advance, one of the perpetrators – the 21-year-old, who, like the others, comes from Munich – had agreed with the tire dealer from the Ebersberg district that he would buy the goods. Depending on the Tesla model, he paid a price of 1,600 or 1,200 euros for a new set of tires; for used tires it was 600 to 800 euros depending on the condition. In total, the tire dealer gave the gang of thieves almost 30,000 euros.

Their two ringleaders, who usually entered the Tesla warehouse through an open window, were convicted of seven counts of serious gang theft. According to the court, the 23-year-old, who acted as the driver and waited in a van during the thieves’ tours, was guilty of aiding and abetting aggravated gang theft in seven counts. Because of the same allegation, but only in four cases, the 28-year-old brother was convicted by one of the main perpetrators. As a worker in the Tesla warehouse, he had provided information for the crimes and in several cases left a window open. All judgments are already final.
