There is an often-quoted saying by Helmut Qualtinger: “In Vienna you have to die first so that they can celebrate you.” The sentence applies to Kay Voges, the acting director of the Vienna Volkstheater, even though the man is still very much alive. Voges has only really been celebrated in Vienna since it was announced in August that he would soon be leaving again: in two years he will be moving to the Schauspiel Köln, where he will succeed Stefan Bachmann (who in turn is going to the Burgtheater in Vienna).
