Karim Benzema was sentenced to a one-year suspended sentence and a 75,000 euros fine for complicity in attempted blackmail against his former teammate Mathieu Valbuena by the Versailles Criminal Court. The latter rendered his judgment Wednesday morning in the so-called sextape case.
Lawyers for the French international are appealing the decision. “It was clearly stated by the court that Karim Benzema was not aware of the preliminary maneuvers. […] We are quite flabbergasted by this judgment. The call is needed. He will be exonerated at the height of this appeal. “
Sentences of up to two and a half years in prison
Against the four other defendants in this case which shook the world of French football, the correctional court of Versailles pronounced sentences ranging from eighteen months of imprisonment suspended to two and a half years in prison.
