Journalist: The 16th school newspaper competition – Bavaria

How do I overcome my love-hate relationship with the cello? Who am I if I lived in four countries as a teenager? And what are the dangers of the cell phone in my pocket? Schoolchildren in Bavaria manage time and again to bring even abstract topics to life in their school newspapers. And that even in the Corona era, when joint brainstorming and layouting has often shifted to digital channels.

The results of this work are often not only admirable, but also award-worthy. Of course, only what can be awarded is what finds its way onto a jury’s desk. It’s good that these have been around for years. This is the 16th time that the Southgerman newspaper and the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture invite the editorial offices of the Bavarian school newspapers to take part in the 2020/2021 journalism competition.

The three best print editors for each type of school will receive between 200 and 500 euros in prize money from the Nemetschek Foundation. She is committed to promoting democracy. The best online school newspapers also receive cash prizes. Editors from elementary, middle, secondary and special schools, from grammar schools and vocational schools are allowed to participate. The winners of each category are part of the “Club of the Best” and receive a special reward program from the Nemetschek Foundation and the SZ. What this reward looks like will not be revealed until the award ceremony.

Send in six printed copies of an issue and – this is new – a PDF file of the issue, which can be found under sz.de/blattmacher can be uploaded. The school newspaper must have appeared between November 2020 and October 15, 2021. In the case of purely online school newspapers, it is sufficient to send in the completed participation form. The closing date for entries is Friday, October 15, 2021 (postmark). The award ceremony will take place at the end of November / beginning of December. More information at sz.de/blattmacher.
