Traditions are important. This is probably one of the reasons why people have been watching “Dinner for One” every New Year’s Eve for years. But my goodness, it’s New Year’s Eve, one more time in the corona pandemic and a little laugh and exaggerated cheerfulness doesn’t really bother anyone. We deserved a bit of lightness in these dreary times.

So let’s celebrate the festivities as they happen and get involved in this spectacle, in which two men act out in an amateurish way how they believe that drunks behave, while the producers of this spectacle, Thomas Schmitt and Jakob Lundt, pretend they are despair of their stars. Perhaps the most beautiful quote of the evening came from Thomas Schmitt: “Let it run, it will be thrown in the trash before it gets to the editing suite.” is almost entertaining again. To call it funny would be an exaggeration, but yes, there was a chance to smile.
