Jérôme Boateng is on trial on appeals for assault

Jérôme Boateng had to appear in court again on Thursday in Munich. The ex-international had appealed a €1.8million fine he was sentenced to committing assault last year. The prosecution also did not accept the decision made at the time, as did Anne Leiding, spokeswoman for the responsible public prosecutor’s office. “The Munich I public prosecutor’s office has appealed here because we do not entirely agree with the first-instance verdict. The public prosecutor’s office has in the first instance a prison sentence of one year, six months on probation, with a condition of probation, a payment of 1.5 million euros to various non-profit organizations. And then only a fine was imposed.” The footballer, who currently plays for Olympique Lyon, is said to have hit his girlfriend at the time while they were on vacation together, which the court of first instance considered proven. Florian Gliwitzky, spokesman for the district court, on the allegations: “It’s about incidents that are said to have happened on a Caribbean island. Physical assaults are said to have occurred. And the court must now clarify whether these allegations are actually true.” This clarification could go quite quickly and a judgment against the former FC Bayern kicker could already be made on Friday.
